Abstract: Abstract • Pseudomonas mendocina was first reported for aerobic nitrate removal. • It removed 90% ofNO3−-N in 24 h under aerobic conditions. • This strain converted NO3−-N to bio-nitrogen (37.9%) andAt the same time, four key genes (napA, nirK, norB and nosZ) related to nitrate nitrogen removal werethe denitrification process of P. mendocina LYX, in which the transcription level of the indicator genesof this aerobic denitrifying bacterium (napA) was the highest.

Dongliang Du, Chuanyi Zhang, Kuixia Zhao, Guangrong Sun, Siqi Zou, Limei Yuan, Shilong He

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2018, Volume 12, Issue 2, doi: 10.1007/s11783-017-0981-z

Abstract: Effect of different carbon sources on purification performance and change of microbial community structure in a novel A N-MBR process were investigated. The results showed that when fed with acetate, propionate or acetate and propionate mixed (1:1) as carbon sources, the effluent COD, NH -N, TN and TP were lower than 30, 5, 15 and 0.5 mg·L , respectively. However, taken glucose as carbon source, the TP concentration of effluent reached 2.6 mg·L . Process analysis found that the amount of anaerobic phosphorus release would be the key factor to determine the above effectiveness. The acetate was beneficial to the growth of associated with biological phosphorus removal, which was the main cause of high efficiency phosphorus removal in this system. In addition, it could eliminate the associated with glycogen-accumulating organisms and guarantee high efficiency phosphorus uptake of phosphorus accumulating organisms in the system with acetate as carbon source.

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2013, Volume 7, Issue 6,   Pages 913-919 doi: 10.1007/s11783-013-0583-3

Abstract: A scaled up microbial fuel cell (MFC) of a 50 L volume was set up with an oxic-anoxic two-stage biocathode and activated semicoke packed electrodes to achieve simultaneous power generation and nitrogen and organic matter removals. An average maximum power density of 43.1 W·m was obtained in batch operating mode. By adjusting the two external resistances, the denitrification in the A-MFC and power production in the O-MFC could be enhanced. In continuous mode, when the hydraulic retention times were set at 6 h, 8 h and 12 h, the removal efficiencies of COD, and total nitrogen (TN) were higher than 95%, 97%, and 84%, respectively. Meanwhile the removal loads for COD, and TN were10, 0.37 and 0.4 kg·(m ·d) , respectively.
